The Losers are back, and they're all grown up! The first terrifying teaser for It: Chapter Two has been released by Warner Bros., and it finds the adult verions of Derry, Maine's Losers' Club returning home to contend with Pennywise the Dancing Clown (played by Bill Skarsgård).
With each member hazy on their first encounter with the Lovecraftian creature back in 1988, it'll be a challenge for them to recapture the adolescent mindset required to kill Pennywise once and for all.
Keep the lights on at home while you watch the first trailer below:
Since Stephen King's 1986 horror novel — upon which the movie is based — comprises more than 1,000 pages and two separate time periods, it really was the best choice for Warner Bros. to split the book into two distinct cinematic projects.
The trailer devotes more than two minutes of its total three minute runtime to give us a scene ripped straight from the pages of the book: an adult Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain) returns to her childhood home in Derry and is welcomed in by the nice old lady who now lives there. As Beverly spends more time in this place, however, she realizes that something is seriously wrong and that the old lady is actually Pennywise in disguise. Afraid of the Losers' knowledge of how to destroy It, the clown terrorizes each one of them in turn in an effort to run them out of town.
Pennywise barely shows up in the trailer as his clown form, aside floating above Richie Tozier (Bill Hader) thanks to a whole bunch of his trademark red balloons. He also appears at the end, saying "hello" to a little girl in the dark, using an almost Winnie the Pooh inflection that is sure to send chills up and down your spine.
Here's the new poster as well:
Directed by the returning Andy Muschietti (Mama), the sequel also stars James McAvoy (Bill Denbrough), Jay Ryan (Ben Hanscom), Isaiah Mustafa (Mike Hanlon), James Ransone (Eddie Kaspbrak), Andy Bean (Stan Uris), Jess Weixler (Audra Phillips), and Xavier Dolan (Adrian Mellon).
The studio has also dropped an official image of the adult edition of the Losers' Club.
Written by Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home), It: Chapter Two awakens to feast on our fear in theaters everywhere Friday, Sep. 6.
