The dauntless Derry children collectively known as the Losers Club are about to grow up quite quickly onscreen when It: Chapter 2 floats and beckons its way to theaters in September 2019. Yet, that process apparently involved unique preparations.
While two of the adult Losers Club members happen to be played by experienced headline stars in James McAvoy and Jessica Chastain, they – and the rest of the adult counterpart cast – face a lofty task of capturing the essence of their kid clown killers. Indeed, Jack Dylan Grazer, who will return in the sequel as young Eddie Kaspbrak, sharing the film with James Ransome as his adult counterpart, revealed to EW that an intriguing bit of character calibration occurred at the Toronto-held table read: Speed dating. – Relax, it’s nothing weird and/or lascivious.
Grazer recounts, “When I first got to Toronto for the table read, we went out to lunch, all of us, and the acting coach from the original It, the one we shot in 2017, came up to us and was like, ‘I have an idea: you guys should do like a speed dating thing and just talk to your adult version.'”
He adds, “I learned a lot about PJ [James Ransome’s nickname], he learned a lot about me and it was really fun.”
The description of this It: Chapter 2 acting exercise seems to line up with the recent photo posted by co-star Jessica Chastain – the adult version of Beverly Marsh – sitting directly across from her character’s younger counterpart, played by Sophia Lillis.
The adult Losers Club cast consists of James McAvoy as Bill Denbrough, Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh, Jay Ryan as Ben Hanscom, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike Hanlon, Andy Bean as Stan Uris, and Bill Hader as Richie Tozier. They will be joined in the sequel by returning flashback-bound kid cast members Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Chosen Jacobs, Jaeden Lieberher, Wyatt Oleff, and Sophia Lillis.
It: Chapter Two, directed by Andy Muschietti, gets ready for a raucous rematch with the evil Pennywise on September 6, 2019.
