The cast continues to fill out for Roland Emmerich’s long-gestating sequel to Independence Day, and now we know who’ll be playing the female lead. She should be a familiar face for horror fans.

Emmerich has confirmed that Maika Monroe, best known as the star of breakout horror hit It Follows, has joined the cast. Emmerich didn’t offer up a ton of details, but The Hollywood Reporter was able to fill out some of the info surrounding Monroe’s role.

Assuming the deal is closed, the 21-year-old actress will play the daughter of Bill Pullman’s president of the United States. Her character will also be the love interest of Liam Hemsworth’s character, who seems to be taking a lead role himself in the film. Monroe reportedly beat out several actresses for the job, including Merritt Patterson, Gabriella Wilde, Britt Robertson and Lucy Boynton.

The sequel is set to pick up in real time several years after the alien attack chronicled in the original 1994 film, and find more aliens coming thanks to a distress call sent out by the original attackers. The cast includes returning stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner, along with new additions Hemsworth, Monroe, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jessie Usher.

The film is set to open June 24, 2016.
