Marvel's colorful new crossover series, Monsters Unleashed, kicked off the new year with a cavalcade of humongous killer kaiju. Written by Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Micronauts) with spirited art by Steve McNiven, this event mini-series debut featured a monster meteor storm pummeling the Earth with dozens of enraged creatures bent on absolute destruction.

Gods and demigods galore are confronted with the insane invasion raining down from above and superhero teams like the Avengers, Inhumans, Guardians of the Galaxy, the X-Men and even Devil Dinosaur and Moon Girl are trying to keep the peace as these tentacled beasts rampage about. Prophecies are being explored, and monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone is investigating ancient cave paintings and dusty scrolls to solve the mystery of where these leviathans are coming from and why they're determined to end all human life on Earth.

The premiere issue was boldly drawn with smart writing and is simply a geeky delight to read. And now is the perfect time to jump aboard the behemoth bash as the second issue arrives!

Here's the solicitation synopsis for Monsters Unleashed #2, with Greg Land (Uncanny X-Men, Birds of Prey) jumping aboard for pencils, due out this Wednesday.
