The third installment in Syfy’s hit Sharknado franchise is on the way, and it seems not even Riverdale can escape the awesome fury of the storm.

Syfy (Blastr’s corporate owner -Ed.) is teaming up with Archie Comics for the comic-book crossover Archie vs. Sharknado to tie into the film’s debut on Wednesday, July 22, which will see the storm causing all kinds of trouble for Archie and the gang. In case you’re wondering, the sequel is officially titled Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!

The comic story will pick up with Archie and his pals kicking back to enjoy a beach vacation, which is going swimmingly until a Sharknado runs ashore and threatens their hometown of Riverdale. The 48-page comic is being written by the film’s director Anthony C. Ferrante, with art by Archie legend Dan Parent. Here’s what Parent had to say about the project:

”I can't tell you the thrill of working on Sharknado. I might be the biggest Sharknado fan, watching multiple airings of the movies, going to theatrical screenings. attending the Riff Trax versions and then buying the DVDs. So to be able to bring Sharknado into the world of Archie is a dream come true. And to be working on it with Sharknado director Anthony C. Ferrante is the icing on the cake! I promise to put my all into this project to make all the Sharknado - and Archie - fans proud!!!"

Jeff Li, vice president of Syfy Ventures, added that “it’s only natural” that Archie and the gang would run afoul of a Sharknado. Hey, those things are everywhere these days. The film sequel stars Ian Ziering, Tara Reid and Cassie Scerbo. New additions to the cameo-filled cast David Hasselhoff, Bo Derek, Ryan Newman, Claudia Shepard, Jack Griffo, Mark Cuban (as the president of the United States), Ann Coulter, Michele Bachmann, Jerry Springer, *NSYNC singer Chris Kirkpatrick and Chris Jericho.
