Just in case you didn't know that all science fiction eventually becomes science fact, the first international Robot War of 2015 is about to begin.

That's because a Japanese company called Suidobashi Heavy Industry has accepted a challenge from an American robotics company called MegaBots Inc. to have their giant robots meet in battle.

Yes, that's right, both companies have constructed giant robots, with MegaBots saying, "We have a duty to the science fiction lovers of this world to fight them to the death.”

The MegaBots machine is called the Mark II (see video below), is 15 feet tall, weighs 12,000 pounds and, just like the Jaegers in Pacific Rim, is piloted by two people. It can also fire paintballs at speeds of more than 100 mph.

Meanwhile, Suidobashi’s bot (pictured above) is called the Kuratas, is 12 and a half feet tall and is equipped with BB Gatling guns (it's also available for sale if you have $1 million). The company responded to the American challenge with its own video, saying, "This duel stands to go down in history as the world’s first giant robot battle. Let’s make sure it’s something for the historians to write about.”

Who do you think will win the first giant robot battle? And do you think this could get out of hand and spread across the world?
