It's now officially, official: Vin Diesel (Guardians of the Galaxy, Fast & Furious) is on board to star in Sony's Bloodshot comic adaptation.

In January, we reported that Vin Diesel was in talks to star in the big screen adaptation of Variant's Bloodshot, and now according to Deadline, the papers have been signed and the deal is done.

The film is said to be in the vein of '80s sci-fi actioners like Robocop and Terminator and aiming to be an R-Rated comic adaptation a la Deadpool and Logan. The script for the film will be penned by Arrival writer Eric Heisserer, and Dave Wilson (Deadpool director Tim Miller's Blur Studios partner) will make his directorial debut. It also reunites Diesel with producer Neil Moritz (Fast & Furious), so expect grandiose things.

The Bloodshot comics were first created in 1992 by Kevin VanHook, Don Perlin, and Bob Layton and are part of the Valiant Expanded Universe. The story follows Ray Garrison (aka Bloodshot), a former soldier injected with nano-technology which gives him super-human abilities like healing, shapeshifting, and cyber interfacing. Previously, actors like Jared Leto, Oscar Isaac, James McAvoy, and Mark Wahlberg were all rumored to be in talks for the role at various points, but Diesel has now officially snagged it.

Now that they've got their leading man, Sony is set to start filming Bloodshot this July, with the film set for release in 2019. What do you think? Are you excited to see Diesel as Bloodshot?
