It's the end of the world as we know it in Netflix’s official trailer for The Rain

“It’s not just about surviving. It’s about hope.” The world as we know it has ended. So, what happens next? In the new official trailer for Netflix’s latest post-apocalyptic YA thriller series, The Rain, two young siblings emerge from a bunker six years after a deadly virus spread through the rain has wiped out most of the population.

After realizing all remnants of civilization are gone, they join a group of young survivors and set out on a quest through an abandoned Scandinavia, searching for any signs of life.

Members of this young survivalist group realize that one upside to living in a post-apocalyptic hellscape is that they can now reinvent themselves and be whoever they want to be. The downside, however, is that even in this new dangerous world, they’re still slaves to love, jealousy, and all those other annoying and heart-wrenching coming-of-age dilemmas. (Seriously, that’s’ cruel.)

Netflix has been on a roll with the imports. Prior to The Rain, which is the streaming service’s first Danish original series, Netflix enjoyed considerable success with Dark, a Stranger Things-esque supernatural drama series from Germany that generated positive reviews and has been recently renewed for a second season.

The Rain is created by Jannik Tai Mosholt, Esben Toft Jacobsen and Christian Potalivo  and stars Alba August, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen, Lars Simonsen, Iben Hjejle, Angela Bundalovic, Sonny Lindberg, Jessica Dinnage, Lukas Løkken and Johannes Bah Kuhnke.

The Rain begins streaming May 4 on Netflix.
