The upcoming film The House With a Clock in Its Walls (based on the beloved John Bellairs book) looks to be one of the most intriguing films of the fall, and the team behind the flick wants fans to “embrace the weird” to learn the mystery house’s secrets.
Star Jack Black (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, King Kong), who plays Jonathan Barnavelt, chatted with acclaimed director Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Death Wish) about the film. The story follows a 10-year-old boy (Owen Vaccaro) who moves in with his eccentric uncle (Black), who just happens to also be a warlock. Roth opened up about how they managed to include more weird and wild ideas than fans might expect, while Black said the film finally checked a box he’d been itching to mark off for years.
“When I read the script, it felt like something that I’d been waiting to do for a long time,” Black said. “It’d been on my bucket list to have powers.”
Black even shows off his spell-casting finger skills, a bit of a preview of the magic abilities he’ll be showing off when The House With a Clock in Its Walls opens Sept. 21.
