Jack Black — School of Rocker, Tenacious D-er, Jumanji 2 and The House with a Clock in its Walls star — is known for being a rambunctious, raucous goofball and multiple threat of stage and screen. His musical antics, comic sensibilities, and acting chops (Bernie is severely underrated) made Black a household name, but now the celebrity is looking to expand into other professional areas. Areas like gaming.
That’s the purpose of his new YouTube channel, Jablinski Games, which launched on Friday. The channel, which has over 600,000 subscribers as of this posting, only offers up one video so far: an introductory clip hosted by Black himself, spinning in a genuine gamer chair to the meme-tastic tones of Undertale’s synth track “Megalovania.”
Take a look:
Black introduces Jablinski as a channel that will be “bigger than Ninja. It’s gonna be bigger than PewDiePie,” referencing one of the largest YouTubers and the most popular Fortnite streamer. With 2.1M views and sitting at #34 on the trending list almost a week after its posting, it seems fans are ready for Black to begin posting his strange videos “every Friday.”
Subscribers can expect “games, food, and life,” according to the description while Black explained in the comments that this was a collaboration between himself and his son. And why not throw in yet another meme so that viewers know that there’s a real-life young person behind the wheel? “I just want to clarify that there is no production behind this,” Black wrote, “This is all my son. He’s holding me hostage and I can’t be Tracer. Help…”
Gaming channels are relatively rare among celebrities, though many stream games from time to time — as Drake has appeared on Ninja’s channel, T-Pain streams his own gaming escapades, and Conan O’Brien has an entire segment to (poorly) playing video games. With one half of Tenacious D now throwing his guitar pick into the ring, what celebrity would you like to see follow suit?
