It's a great time to be a fan of both Batman and Victorian horror. The latest animated feature from DC Entertainment was recently revealed to be an adaptation of the classic Batman: Gotham by Gaslight comic, which finds Batman chasing down Jack the Ripper!

Nope, it doesn't get much better than that. Originally created in 1989, the comic is considered one of the first "elseworlds" tales. It was written by Brian Augustyn and drawn by none other than Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, and his influence can certainly be seen even here, in animated form.

Crank up your Batsignal and give it a watch:

Bruce Greenwood once again voices the caped crusader (continuing from his work in Batman: Under the Red Hood); Jennifer Carpenter voices the whip-cracking, Victorian-garbed Selina Kyle; and the great Anthony Head gives voice to Alfred Pennyworth.

God save the Commissioner, this can't come out soon enough, but we'll have to wait till 2018, when Batman: Gotham by Gaslight drops on Blu-ray and Digital.
