Watchmen star Jackie Earle Haley has been cast in the role of a key comic-book villain in AMC’s Preacher, the Seth Rogen adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s iconic Vertigo/DC Comics series.
BOOK SPOILERS BELOW
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Academy Award nominee will play the role of Odin Quincannon in a six-episode arc (out of a 10-episode first season) on the highly anticipated AMC drama series that stars Dominic Cooper as Texas Preacher Jesse Custer, Ruth Negga as his GF Tulip O'Hare, Joe Gilgun as the vampire Cassidy, Ian Colletti as Arseface, Lucy Griffiths as Emily Woodrow, Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon and Jamie Anne Allman and Derek Wilson in the roles of Betsy and Donny Schenck.
The TV version of Odin Quincannon is described as:
A small, decrepit man with the unscrupulous iron will necessary to be the most powerful man in Annville County, Texas. The chief employer in town, Odin runs Quincannon Meat & Power, a 125-year-old family run cattle slaughterhouse business. In the comics, Odin is a member of the local KKK branch and clashes multiple times with Jesse, with the latter eventually discovering him having sex with a mannequin made out of meat products.
Eww! Yep, this happened. THIS HAPPENED. I have to wonder if the show will go there, though. Do you guys think that it will? Here’s the official synopsis for the TV series:
Based on the twisted and popular ‘90s comic book franchise of the same name, “Preacher,” created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) a conflicted Preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) embark on a journey to, literally, find God.
I’m pretty excited that Preacher has nabbed Jackie Earle Haley for the role of that super nasty villain Odin Quincannon. The supernatural series will mark the third time the actor will have appeared in a comic-book adaptation. He first played Rorscharch in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen and starred in Human Target. What do you think of this casting coup?
AMC’s Preacher is set to premiere in the summer of 2016.
