Did you know that Jamie Foxx nearly played Marvel’s Hero for Hire Luke Cage?
In an interview with IGN — in which Foxx discusses his love of superheroes and what drew him to comic-book characters at an early age — the Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor revealed that he was approached to play Luke Cage “back in the day.”
At one point, the character was poised to make his long-awaited debut on the big screen, instead of the small-screen version we’ll get with the Marvel/Netflix TV series now in development. This was, of course, before the rights to the character reverted back to Marvel Studios, back when John Singleton had been tapped to direct a Luke Cage flick at Colombia Pictures.
At the time, it seems that the studio had its eye on Foxx, who recently went on to play another comic-book character instead: the supervillain Max Dillon, aka Electro, in Amazing 2. Sadly, the actor doesn’t go into much detail about the Luke Cage role or the project, simply stating that things didn’t work out.
