Jamie Chung, who plays Takara in the Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 download Uprising, told SCI FI Wire that she taunts the player as she explains the mission. The real-time strategy game is set is an alternate present where the U.S. is fighting both Soviets and the Japanese Empire of the Rising Sun after a time traveler alters the outcome of World War II.
"It's one of those characters that taunts," Chung said in an interview Monday in Beverly Hills, Calif., where she was promoting Dragonball: Evolution. "I'm a live-action person in the video game, and I challenge the players. I act all tough. I am the commander of the Red Army. It's hilarious. I mean, some of the lines they had me say, it's just uber-sexy. That's kind of out of my comfort zone."
The Korean-born Chung has found herself cast in several Japanese roles, including Samurai Girl and Dragonball. "I feel like I'm turning Japanese because of all the roles I've been getting, which is an honor," she said. "It's a beautiful culture, but it was kind of lots of Japanese flags and a red leather jacket. It was interesting."
Acting for the video game, emphasizing gaming instructions over performance, provided Chung's toughest challenge yet in Hollywood. "I would have to say that would be the hardest acting job, working with the director giving me line readings and telling me to act a specific way, just lots of overacting," she said. "I was like, 'I don't know if I can do that.' It was really hard."
Red Alert 3: Uprising is now available for download.
