Those upset that Jeremy Renner’s bow-wielding Avenger Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, was absent from the fight against Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War can dry those eyes. The actor posted a photo on Instagram that appears to be confirming that he is indeed in Avengers 4. And it’s a good thing, too, since we’ve lost about half of the team!
“Circling the wagons with my good friends @marvel @avengers#letsstretchbitches #hawkeye” Renner wrote next to a selfie he posted, along with the words “Good to be BACK!!!!” typed across the picture. It should be noted that he is sporting Clint’s signature hairdo in the photo.
The absence of Hawkeye on Entertainment Weekly’s series of collectible covers promoting Infinity War (not counting that fan-made cover Renner reposted on social media) back in March was one of the first signs that Clint may not be in Infinity War. The film's directors, the Russo Brothers, told us not to worry. But we worried. We couldn’t help it. It didn’t help that Hawkeye didn’t get an official solo poster the following month — or that the hero was nowhere to be found on any promotional materials.
And when the film finally came out, sure enough, no Hawkeye. No, he hadn’t been disintegrated early by Thanos, or hypnotized by Loki again.
So, where was he? Well, his absence was explained in an offhand line about accepting a deal with the government. Oh.
But with Hawkeye apparently now back for the rematch with Thanos, perhaps we can find what he had been doing during the previous movie. (Our money’s on binge-watching Arrow.)
Avengers 4 is slated to assemble into movie theaters on May 3, 2019.
