Holy wow! Marvel’s Jessica Jones just added a two-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner in a major and mysterious role for Season 2.
According to Entertainment Weekly, British actress Janet McTeer (The White Queen, The Woman in Black) has joined the cast of the Netflix superhero series. According to the site, McTeer has come on board as an “undisclosed character who will have an enormous impact on Jessica’s life.”
Which … doesn’t leave a lot of room to speculate. Could McTeer be playing Jessica’s (Krysten Ritter) mother? Although it’s been stated she’d died back in Season 1, what if she actually survived? I mean, they're both very tall ... Her mom being alive would definitely have a huge impact on Jessica’s life!
It’s also possible she could have joined the series as one of the show’s new villains (there have been rumors they were looking at more than one baddie for Season 2), with some fans speculating she could be playing Typhoid Mary, a Daredevil villain with ties to Kingpin who's also had dealings with Jessica. To be fair, McTeer could also be on board as a brand-new character specifically created for the show (though knowing Marvel, she's probably playing an existing one).
Series creator and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg said about the addition of Janet McTeer:
“We couldn’t possibly be more excited to work with Ms. McTeer for our second season. Her gravitas and authenticity are the perfect ingredients for all we’re trying to create this year. She disappears into roles, gives her characters extraordinary dimension and depth. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to collaborate with her.”
With Marvel head of TV Jeph Loeb adding: “We are so fortunate to have an actress of Janet’s talent and stature join what is already an incredible cast. Our second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones aims to capture what audiences loved about our first, and Janet will be key to achieving that goal.”
What do you think of Janet McTeer joining the second season of Jessica Jones? Who do you think the actress will play?
