Holy Samoas, Batman! What's better than supporting a Girl Scout to sell enough cookies to go to Disneyland and learn about money management? Answer: buying said cookies at your local comic shop. The only way to top it is if that Girl Scout is Jim Lee's daughter.
The DC Comics co-publisher announced on Facebook that he's helping his daughter River raise money for her troop at Earth-2 Comics in Sherman Oaks on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. "Come by and get your comics signed and load up on all your favorite cookies," Lee posted. You never know who might show up to the cookie sale since Geoff Johns co-owns the second location in Northridge, California. Considering the DC offices aren't too far and a number of comic book professionals live in the Valley—you might bump into a gaggle of your favorite artists and writers with their kids trying to get Girl Scout cookies and empty their pull list.
Just to think that 26 years ago Lee's Image Comics signings attracted mobs of people, big-time celebs like Eazy-E, the skies were filled with news and police helicopters. But now it's likely to be not only comics fans hungry for a sketch or signature from Lee but the residents of Sherman Oaks hungry for some Thin Mints.
Those cookies and Lee's art are so good I might just head there myself! Developing ...
UPDATE: It was just like the good old early Image Comics, but with adorable Girl Scouts making money hand over fist. I wasn't able to get a sketch or autograph, but I did go home with a box of Thin Mints and S'mores cookies.
