As Star Wars: Episode IX begins production today, Aug. 1, at Pinewood Studios in London, its stars are keeping fit for all the space drama they’re sure to be a part of. After the casting announcement less than a week ago named some unexpected and exciting co-stars for the returning crew, the new trilogy’s heroes — or at least Finn portrayer John Boyega — are staying strong for the Resistance.
Check out director J.J. Abrams' first tweet, celebrating the beginning of production and honoring late cast member Carrie Fisher, before scoping Boyega's new look:
That’s Boyega lifting over at the “Star Wars Gym” that you can get a better look at here:
Yeah, Boyega’s getting jacked — possibly teasing bigger and badder fight scenes for his ex-Stormtrooper. Who may also have a new look:
Welcoming co-star Naomi Ackie (who plays an as-of-yet unknown character) to the Star Wars-verse, Boyega gave a big hug while showing off some tresses a little longer than Finn’s usual crew cut. This could mean we’ve got a little time jump on our hands, but either way, it’s good to see that the cast is getting together for production.
The unnamed final chapter in the trilogy is expected to hit theaters on Dec. 20, 2019.
