Ever since it was announced John Simm's Master would be returning to Doctor Who in a significant role, fans have been (im)patiently waiting for him to materialize back into the Doctor’s life.

Although we’ve been expecting Simm to return on time for Peter Capaldi’s swan song during the Season 10 finale, it now looks like the villainous Time Lord will be back a little sooner than expected.

According to the BBC (via Radio Times), John Simm’s Master will make his entrance in the penultimate episode, titled “World Enough and Time.” Written by showrunner Steven Moffat, the 11th episode will air on Saturday, June 24. Here’s the intriguing synopsis:

Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Are events already out of control? For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy…

While we know The Master and his future incarnation Missy (Michelle Gomez) will interact (that would be the first time multiple incarnations of The Master will share the screen), the fact that Gomez is also listed for “World Enough and Time” is even more exciting because we may get to see them come face to face a whole week earlier!

How excited are you about John Simm’s return as The Master on Doctor Who? Are we June 24 yet?
