When it comes to this year’s Arrowverse crossover event, never have fans been so excited about something they know so little. One thing we now know is that we're getting a blast from the past.
When the CW first announced that Batwoman (played by Ruby Rose) would be introduced this year, as well as received a series, one would think that would be enough to gain interest in this year’s team-up. Then the title was revealed, “Elseworlds.” “Elseworlds” is the name of the line of comics DC would release that put its heroes in different scenarios, where anything was possible. Kal-El crashed on the Wayne Estate instead of Smallville. Bruce Wayne received the Green Lantern ring instead of Hal Jordan.
The Arrowverse started teasing these types of changes with the first poster, showing Grant Gustin and Stephen Amell wearing the other’s costume. Then they released a picture of Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) wearing an all-black suit. That’s still enough to keep fans both onboard and intrigued. Amell’s most recent tweet just proved that there is still more to come.
Not only is John Wesley Shipp back, but this time he’s brought along an old friend in the form of his original Flash costume from the 1990 CBS series. Is he playing Jay Garrick, or is he playing the same Barry Allen from almost 30 years ago? That’s what makes this year’s crossover such a must-see event is that we still have no idea. What we do know is that we’ll be tuning in to see what happens.
Elseworlds, running through The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl, begins December 9th.
