It’s official! After his name was thrown into the ring (along with Rupert Sanders, Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens), John Wick co-director David Leitch will now be sitting in the director's chair for Deadpool 2.

The news broke over the weekend (via The Hollywood Reporter) that Leitch has now signed on the dotted line for 20th Century Fox’s upcoming Deadpool sequel. Leitch is replacing Tim Miller, who recently left the project over “creative differences” with star Ryan Reynolds. One of those differences was the choice of actor for the role of the X-Men’s time-traveling mutant Nathan Summers, aka Cable: Miller wanted Friday Night Lights’ Kyle Chandler, Reynolds didn’t.

According to the site, Leitch was offered the job soon after meeting with Reynolds in New York City. I guess the two of them must have gotten along pretty well and saw eye to eye as to the direction of the second Deadpool movie. One other thing that works in Leitch’s favor is that having worked so long in the stunt industry, dude definitely has an eye for the action scenes. Expect the Merc With a Mouth to pull off even more spectacular moves when Deadpool 2 rolls around!

What’s also very interesting about the report is that the powers-that-be will be on the hunt for a new director for Deadpool 3, indicating that Leitch won’t stick around for the third entry. Is this where Sanders, Goddard and Martens come in; or will the studio and producers be looking for somebody else entirely? It all remains to be seen.

Are you excited that David Leitch will direct Deadpool 2? Who would you like to see at the helm of the third movie?
