Will he or won't he? We all know John Barrowman wants to come back to Doctor Who—heck, the actor's said it often enough. Even Who showrunner and guru Steven Moffat would love to bring Captain Jack Harkness back for more time-traveling adventures alongside the Doctor in the TARDIS. But is it ever gonna happen?
Barrowman doesn't think so.
Fresh off his last Torchwood series, which aired both on Starz (in the U.S.) and on the BBC (in the U.K) over the summer, the 10-parter (and sadly underwhelming) Miracle Day—and while doing a bit of promotion for his U.K. tour—John Barrowman has once again spoken up about his desire to have Captain Jack return to Doctor Who.
Talking with the Geek Files, Barrowman said:
"Everybody keeps asking me and if I'm offered I would love to. I think it would be great. There is no plan to do that. No one has come forward. I don't think it'll happen. I'm always open for it, but who knows?"
Barrowman—who still doesn't know yet if Torchwood will be back for a fifth series (or season, if you prefer)—also discussed Who's upcoming big 50th-anniversary bash in 2013 with the Daily Record, and how much he'd love to be there to mark the milestone:
"I think it would be great to be involved with the 50th Anniversary, since Jack was such a big part of the Who world. But, having said that, nothing's been said, so I don't sit and wait.
"I don't want fans to think that I don't want to do it because I would love to, but if I'm not asked I'm not going to bang down the door—I'll just move onto something else."
(We have to point out here that the actor uses his proper British accent in the video interview, which is really weird and cool all at once, 'cause we usually hear him talk with an American accent. Go and check it out!)
What do you think? Are your hopes to see Captain Jack Harkness come back and help the Doctor in his greatest hour of need gone? Or do you think it's way too early to tell?
