Hot on the heels of recasting Bruce Wayne’s very, very rich pop, Joker — the Todd Phillips-helmed, Joaquin Phoenix-starring origin story of Batman’s greatest nemesis — has rounded out its supporting players with a full casting announcement.
In a release, Warner Bros. listed out some exciting character actors that will be accompanying Arthur Fleck on his journey to Joker-dom.
Bill Camp (who recently played a raggedy cop on The Night Of), Glenn Fleshler (an ex-True Detective villain), and Shea Whigham (whom you may know as a military man from Kong: Skull Island) all add their grim and grizzled visages to the lineup of rubes for Fleck to tease. Fleshler already showed up opposite Phoenix in a set photo, dressed as a clown. He didn't seem pleased.
With this actorly lineup supporting stars like Zazie Beetz and Robert De Niro, the anti-comedy (or at least deadpan) looks to be strong in the film that’ll be shot by Phillips’ cinematographer from his Hangover series, Lawrence Sher — who’s also shooting the upcoming (and awesome looking) Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Details on what characters these actors are playing are forthcoming — just like most things with this oddball movie. At least it’s got a great cast, despite the DCEU seemingly collapsing around it.
Joker is set for release Oct. 4, 2019.
