Jon Bernthal on Punisher: Stripping out every supernatural element

The Punisher won't be premiering on Netflix for a while, but we are learning a little more about what we can expect from the show. Namely, that there are no supernatural elements in this corner of the Marvel universe.

According to Entertainment Weekly, series star Jon Bernthal had this to say:

“We are stripping down every supernatural element. This show is different. It looks different. Frank is a character rooted in the most basic human emotions… He’s a comic-book character, but he doesn’t fly, he doesn’t have X-ray vision. He’s an unbelievably skilled soldier who’s been very, very angry and very, very hurt.”

Deborah Ann Woll will recur on The Punisher as Karen Page, but the other Netflix Marvel stalwart, Claire Temple (played by Rosario Dawson) is said to not be showing up. The Punisher will be the first Netflix Marvel property that hasn't seen Claire in at least one episode.

The Punisher is the latest collaboration between Marvel and Netflix, and spins out of Castle's story first introduced in Daredevil Season 2. The streaming service still hasn't revealed the release date, but the show is expected to drop by the end of 2017. So, you know, it'll be sometime soon.
