After all this time, Seth (Jonah Hill) and Jules (Emma Stone) from Superbad are reunited once more. But they're not pairing up again for a night of underage drinking and evading the police. No, they'll be starring together in Netflix's upcoming show Maniac, from the minds of writer Patrick Somerville (The Bridge) and director Cary Fukunaga (True Detective).
Based on the Norwegian show of the same name, Maniac is "the story of two strangers who find themselves caught up in a mindbending pharmaceutical trial gone awry." As a result, they enter a fantasy world, one filled with trolls, elves, and fairies.
Sounds like FX's Legion mixed with Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch, along with Terry Gilliam's Brazil thrown in. Hill proved he was more than capable of pretending to be in a zonked-out drug state in Martin Scorsese's Wolf of Wall Street, so it'll be interesting to see how he handles the same concept here.
Several Netflix alumni are part of the supporting cast, including Justin Theroux (The Leftovers, Mute), Julia Garner (Ozark), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Jemima Kirke (Axe Cop), and Sally Field (Little Evil).
The streaming service has not announced an official release date for Maniac, but it's expected to drop sometime later this year. In the meantime, check out the gallery below for a sneak peek at the upcoming series.
