As soon as fans learned Roberto Orci had beamed off the the U.S.S Enterprise as Star Trek 3 director, they rallied to get fan favorite Jonathan Frakes to helm the upcoming sci-fi flick, launching a #BringInRiker Twitter campaign.
So what does Cmdr. William T. Riker think of all that?
Jonathan Frakes has revealed in an interview with Charlie Harger from Komo News that he has actually reached out to the Paramount powers-that-be about directing the upcoming Star Trek flick to be released (hopefully) in 2016 -- just in time for the beloved sci-fi series’ 50th anniversary.
"Hashtag, BringInRiker!" he yells to me from his cell phone. "I'm all over it. I'm all over it."
Frakes then confirmed he’s already made contact with producer J.J. Abrams, and that his agent has reached out to Paramount Pictures. “I would love that job,” Frakes says. Then he adds:
“I say, unabashedly, I'd be great at it and would love to do it.”
When Harger told Frakes he was already envisioning him as director, the Star Trek: First Contact director said, “I am too,” while also acknowledging it was an uphill battle -- especially since Paramount looks keen on nabbing Edgar Wright as director -- but that stranger things have happened in Hollywood.
“I'm trying to keep the lid on how excited I am about the possibility, knowing it's such a long shot. But there's nothing I would like better.”
Make it so!
