If you were hoping for more Thanos, you are in luck. Josh Brolin seems like he's here to stay.
We finally saw the real deal Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy, but that's just the start of Josh Brolin's take on Thanos in the coming years. And since his appearance at Comic-Con this year, Brolin's excitement about playing Thanos has only grown.
But first things first. How and why did Brolin take on Thanos in the first place?
I knew Louis (D'Esposito) as a first AD, and he's the one who initially called me, and then (producer) Jeremy Latcham. Then I talked to Kevin Feige, ultimately. But there's something about them that's so insular and so geeky and so real. I loved it -- because I've turned down a lot of those types of movies. Not Marvel, but I've turned down a lot of those types of movies. When they started telling me the story about them getting together in Palm Springs, nine of them flipping burgers and talking about what Thanos was going to do and going, 'What do you think?' like, 'Captain America's going to show up here!' Then, 'Oh my God, what if the Hulk came in at that point?' and all that -- I love that $#!@. I love it, because those guys are absolutely saturated with that world, and they love story.
It's cool to hear how Brolin seems to be taking a real active role in digging into who Thanos is and where he's going. And San Diego Comic-Con really added a whole new dimension in his understanding of where Thanos is headed.
Once I got on-stage, it sort of became its own improv. I knew at that point, because I saw the rivalry between Robert [Downey Jr.] and I, and I thought, 'I get this. I suddenly really get it.' So I feel like I'm more inside it than I was. It was more a display to me before that. It was more cosmetic. Now I think I'm starting to get who the guy is a little bit.
Of course the real excitement here is the acknowledgment that Iron Man and Thanos are going to be going toe to toe. Sure, Ultron is the next Big Bad the Avengers will be fighting, but it's hard not to be more excited for when Avengers 3 finally comes out and we get to see a cinematic take on Infinity Wars.
Speaking of -- how many Thanos appearances can we expect?
I know what one appearance is going to be for sure. There's one or two that I don't know.
So, probably three more movies. Avengers 3 and Guardians 2 are unquestionably two of them. But what might the third be? Maybe he'll face off against Doctor Strange? Have we got an Adam Warlock story coming?
