Fans of Buffy got a vampire-busting treat today as the creative team behind the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic reboot was revealed by BOOM! Studios to include none other than Mister Buffy himself: Joss Whedon. The series creator will be on board the upcoming comic's team as a story consultant.
Boom! also revealed that the comic will be a full reboot, starting the demon fighter's story over from its beginning, and setting it in the world of 2019, not as a continuation of the previous Dark Horse comic. "The world right now is scarier than it's ever been; placing these characters firmly in 2019, we can use the themes that were so integral to the show--identity, agency and empathy--to examine our world and the heroes and monsters that lurk inside all of us...and punch those monsters right in the face," said executive editor Jeanine Schaefer, via a press release.
Eisner Award nominee Jordie Bellaire is on board as the writer, alongside artist Dan Mora. Issue #1's main cover will be drawn by Matthew Taylor, with variants by Kevin Wada, Royal Dunlap, Becca Carey, and Jen Bartel.
