Marvel Studios is adding another top-notch actor to its universe of stars.
The Wrap reports that Jude Law is in talks to join the cast of Captain Marvel, the origin story of the powerful superbeing known as Carol Danvers. If Law signs on the dotted line, he'll join a cast that already includes Oscar winner Brie Larson in the title role, Samuel L. Jackson as Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstay Nick Fury, and possibly the great Australian character actor Ben Mendelsohn as the movie's main villain, in this case the leader of the shapeshifting alien race called the Skrulls.
We don't officially know yet whom Law would be playing, but the role is described as the film's primary male protagonist and said to be a "mentor" to Carol Danvers. Could he be appearing as Dr. Walter Lawson, aka the Kree warrior known as Captain Mar-vell, from whom Danvers obtains her powers when their DNA is accidentally fused in an explosion? Variety seems to think that's the case, although that's not confirmed by Marvel just yet.
The film, set in the 1990s, will be directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with the latest draft of the screenplay penned by Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Law also recently joined the Harry Potter universe as young Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and will also show up in the female-centric spy thriller The Rhythm Section with Blake Lively.
Captain Marvel is set for release on March 8, 2019. Care to speculate on whom Law is playing?
