I'm going to come out right off the bat and say it: The CW's Riverdale is my new guilty pleasure of 2017, and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) my new favorite character.

I was a casual reader of Archie digests as a kid, and when I heard there was going to be a TV adaptation of the characters I loved to catch up with from time to time in my younger years, my interest was piqued. As you may already know, Riverdale is not a straight adaptation of the Archie comics. Rather, the show has plucked the characters from the pages of the comics and created a darker take that's very much its own thing, where Jughead is one-half of a murder-investigating dynamic duo with Betty (Lili Reinhart). But I digress ...

Jughead is getting a new one-shot comic that features the character in the role of something much more sinister than the hamburger-loving dude we all know and love. The new Archie Horror one-shot issue is titled Jughead: The Hunger and features Forsythe Pendleton Jones III as a big, bad, Miss Grundy-killin' creature known as the Riverdale Ripper. (Well, I assume it's him doing the killing.)

Set to hit comic book stores (and be released digitally) on March 29, the new single issue is penned by Frank Tieri with art by Michael Walsh and Jack Morelli. Walsh also provided the cover art with two more variant covers by Francesco Francavilla and Robert Hack. Read up on the official synopsis before digging into the gallery below.

Jughead Jones has always had an insatiable appetite … but what if his hunger came from a sinister place? When a murderous menace is on the prowl, taking the lives of some of the most well-known and esteemed inhabitants of Riverdale, Jughead and his family's dark legacy comes to light.

Will Jughead: The Hunger be on your must-read list?
