Julia Ormond's out as Superman's Man of Steel mom ... so who's in?

If you've been paying attention to Man of Steel, you'll know that the fabulous Julia Ormond was cast as Lara Lor-Van, Superman's biomom. Not anymore. Even though the film has been in production since early September, Julia Ormond's been replaced. And the role of Superman's mother goes to ...

Ayelet Zurer.

Sci-fi fans might not know who she is, but the Israeli actress has a storied IMDB page, with roles in movies such as Angels & Demons (directed by Ron Howard) and Munich (directed by Stephen Spielberg). She'll be working with Russell Crowe, who plays her husband, Jor-El.

We don't know if Ormond left Man of Steel on her own accord or was ousted by director Zach Snyder. We especially don't know if she had shot some footage. But we do know, thanks to Deadline, that Zurer will start filming this week.

The cast and crew of Man of Steel are currently working in Vancouver.
