The CW's recently ordered Roswell reboot has enlisted a familiar name to jump aboard.
According to Deadline, Julie Plec (The Originals, The Vampire Diaries) has signed on to not only direct the pilot of the reboot, but to executive produce, as well, if the pilot is ordered to series.
This is Plec's first time directing a pilot, but she is no stranger to genre television. She created The Originals, which begins its fourth and final season this spring, acted as showrunner on The Vampire Diaries, and wrote and executive produced on genre shows Containment and The Tomorrow People, as well. And this isn't her first time in the director's chair either. In addition to directing several episodes of The Vampire Diaries, she has also directed an episode of another of The CW's hit shows: Riverdale.
The upcoming Roswell reboot is headed in a different direction from the original series, and will follow the daughter of undocumented immigrants as she reluctantly returns to her hometown of Roswell, New Mexico. Upon arriving, she discovers the alien identity of an old crush. The show won't shy away from politics either, and is set to address issues of hate and fear in addition to government alien cover-ups. Carina Adly MacKenzie (The Originals) wrote the pilot in addition to executive producing the project from Amblin TV, Bender Brown Prods, and Warner Bros. TV.
Of course, now we'll just have to wait and see if the show will make it to our television screens. But with The CW adding a whole new night of original programming, Roswell's odds likely got a lot better.
What do you hope to see in the Roswell reboot?
