Today, July 15th, This Day in Twilight Zone History and The Twilight Zone Encyclopedia remembers two TZ actors: actor Ken Lynch, born on this day in 1910, and actress Gloria Pall, born in 1927.
Lynch (1910-1990) played the gravel-voiced bartender who tends to drunken Dan Duryea in "Mr. Denton on Doomsday." Outside TZ, he was forever cast as a cop, including one who arrests Cary Grant in a Chicago auction house in North by Northwest. He also had recurring roles on Checkmate, Arrest and Trial, Honey West, and McCloud.
Voluptuous actress Gloria Pall (1927-2012) played the bar girl who's befriended by U.S. Air Force officer Clegg Forbes (Rod Taylor) in "And When the Sky Was Opened." A Brooklyn native, Pall won the Miss Flatbush beauty contest in 1947 before she became a showgirl in Reno and Las Vegas.
According to IMDB, in 1954, Pall developed a TV show built around a sexy character she created called Voluptua, which aired on ABC and ended after seven weeks because of protests from some viewers shocked by the content of the show.
In the mid-'60s, Pall retired from acting to start a real estate business and later turned to writing her autobiography and other books about Hollywood.
So let's hoist two beers to Ken Lynch and Gloria Pall, who brought very different gifts to the gift that keeps on giving: The Twilight Zone.
