Star Wars: The Last Jedi dominated the box office in the final few weeks of 2017, but now it's 2018 and it's "New year, new you" as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is king.

At $36 million, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle beat out both Star Wars: The Last Jedi and horror film Insidious: The Last Key at the box office in the first weekend of the new year according to Variety. The fourth film in the Insidious franchise grabbed second place at $29.3 million. The Last Jedi rolled into third at $23.6 million -- a 55% decline from the previous weekend. Even with the large decline for The Last Jedi, this weekend's numbers brought the domestic total to a whopping $572.5 million.

Jumanji: Welcome to Jungle is now at $244.4 million domestically since opening just a few days after The Last Jedi and has moved passed Justice League to become the ninth largest grossing opening of 2017. Jumanji has overall received positive reviews which likely helped the family-oriented film over the holidays.
