The fun thing about this time of year in sci-fi history is that it’s like having an entire summer movie season every day. Today, go with us back to June 10, 2011, when J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg teamed up to release the much-hyped Super 8.  The film did pretty well at the box office and had pretty good reviews for its breakout stars, special effects and, y'know, Speilbramsberg magic.  It’s worth a rewatch if you find yourself looking for a movie over the summer.  To drive that home a little bit more:

We totally bought the hype. And were rewarded with this ending.

And look, sometimes we like to drop these in because they sort of tell the story without all-the-way dumping on them. Enjoy.

Today is also actress Leelee Sobieski’s birthday. The Joan of Arc and Deep Impact star was born in 1983, and (a fact we just learned) is the daughter of an actual count.

So again, if you happen to bump into Leelee Sobieski today, tell her happy birthday from Syfy Wire.

Tomorrow: Two of (arguably) the biggest summer premieres ever.
