Today, June 13th, This Day in Twilight Zone History and The Twilight Zone Encyclopedia remember actress June Dayton, who passed away on this day in 1994 at age 70.

Dayton played Helen Turner, a girl-next-door type who works with banker Hector B. Poole (Dick York) in the delightful "A Penny For Your Thoughts." Helen has admired Hector from afar, but she doesn't realize that he's suddenly become a telepath... thanks to the coin he dropped into a newsboy's box, which landed standing up.

Lovely June Dayton played the sweet bank clerk in "A Penny for Your Thoughts."

Dayton (1923-1994), whose real name was Mary June Wetzel, was perfect as Helen, exuding the type of qualities that lead to long-lasting marriages, not quick flings. A native of Dayton, Ohio - most likely the source for her stage name – she worked almost exclusively in television. In an acting career that lasted 37 years, she appeared in only one feature: the Pearl Harbor epic Tora! Tora! Tora!

The coin that starts all the shenanigans in "A Penny for Your Thoughts."

So let's raise a toast to June Dayton, Helen Turner, and all the girls-next-door in the world – the hard-working and hard-loving women who are the real prizes on that circus midway we call The Twilight Zone.
