On this day in 1967, Nicole Kidman was born in Honolulu.

She’s Australian, yes, but was born in Hawaii – didja know? Really! Her given Hawaiian name is Hokulani, which means "Heavenly Star." Her parents moved back to Australia when she was 4 years old. Her first role was the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz. And now, upcoming, she’s going to be playing Queen Atlanna in Aquaman. Which we're very much looking forward to.

Some other notable sci-fi roles:

Mrs. Coulter, The Golden Compass:

Samantha Stevens, Bewitched:

Grace Stewart, The Others:

Today also happens to be the birthday of Dan Connor himself: John Goodman was born on this day in 1952. Born in Affton, Missouri, Goodman attended Missouri State University with (get this) Kathleen Turner.

The bulk of his science fiction roles turns out to be voiceovers. A sampling:

Robot Santa Claus, Futurama:

Sully, Monsters Inc.:

Also, 10 Cloverfield Lane:
