James Wan delights in scaring the bejesus out of us, and he's perfecting his craft with each new supernatural project.  He's been on a roll since directing the first jagged installment of Saw and the deliciously creepy Insidious.   The Conjuring is his latest grim ghost affair, branded with an MPAA "R" rating due to its stratospheric fright factor.

In this terrifying trailer, Wan produces an interesting array of disturbing tricks from his maniacal magic hat.  It's based on an actual case from The Amityvile Horror's real-life husband-and-wife ghostbusting team, the Warrens, and appears to raise the boogeyman bar for this season's horror offerings.

Here's the official synopsis:

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Based on a true story, The Conjuring tells the horrifying tale of how world-renowned paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren were called upon to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

The Conjuring appears in theaters on July 19, 2013, and stars Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Ron Livingston, Lili Taylor, Joey King, Shanley Caswell, Haley McFarland, Mackenzie Foy and Kyla Deaver.
