Growing up is tough. It's even tougher when you're the last boy on Earth and its current anthropomorphic animal inhabitants want you dead. But that's just another day in the life for Kamandi, a cherished character creation of Jack Kirby and the star of DC's Kamandi Challenge, a creative celebration of what would have been The King's 100th year.
Each issue of the challenge sees the story passed off to a new creative team, who pick up right where the previous writer and artist left off. In the first issue of the challenge, Dan Abnett and Dale Eaglesham left a bombshell of a cliffhanger for the next team to figure out — literally!
How will Kamandi escape the claws of Lord Caesar ... and the blast radius of the nuclear bomb he worships as a god? Peter J. Tomasi and Neal Adams have the answers, and we have an exclusive five-page preview!
Tomasi has had a big couple of weeks at DC following the recent release of Super Sons and the legendary Neal Adams continues to unleash his enthusiasm for Kirby's creations after utilizing the New Gods in his series Superman: The Coming of the Supermen. You won't want to miss this powerhouse creative duo's take on Kamandi and what they leave for Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner to deal with next month!
Check out the pulse-pounding preview in the gallery below, written by Peter J. Tomasi with art by Neal Adams and covers by Adams and Kenneth Rocafort, then pick up the issue in comic shops everywhere on February 22.
