With a Judge Dredd TV series in the works, fans have been hoping against hope that Karl Urban might reprise the role from the 2012 cult hit. Well, it’s looking more and more likely that Urban could don the helmet once again.

While speaking at the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, Urban revealed he has had “discussions with them about that.” His only request? That they “write the material and give Dredd something to do and give him a function.” If that happens, he said he would “love to” return for the TV series. Little is known about the proposed Mega-City One television project, though tonally it sounds like it’d be a decent fit for how the character was handled in the R-rated cult hit film. Dredd was a box-office dud, but critics loved it, and it eventually found a wider audience upon home release.

Landing Urban for the series would be a great casting coup. His stock has only been on the rise, and he’s proven he can lead a TV series thanks to Fox’s short-lived (but excellent) Almost Human. He also has a ton of genre cred thanks to the Star Trek film franchise, and (obviously) the fact that he literally already played Dredd on the big screen.

What do you think? Would you like to see Urban back in the role? Could you imagine anyone else in the part?
