We’re afraid we’ve got some bad news for those of you who really enjoyed seeing actress Kate Beckinsale kicking all sorts of ass in that form-fitting black leather bodysuit in the Underworld films — those five films she’s in are all you’re going to get. At least, that’s what Beckinsale recently told Variety.
When asked if she’d ever make another Underworld film, the actress told the publication that she’s done playing the vampire Selene in the franchise. “I wouldn’t return,” she said. “I’ve done plenty of those.”
And that’s all she had to say on the subject. So, there you have it. Don’t expect her to appear in the upcoming TV series, either.
Clearly, she’s ready to do other things. After all, she’s currently playing a role unlike any other she’s played in director Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s debut feature, Farming, which is cuyrrently getting a great deal of positive attention at the Toronto International Film Festival. Plus, as we said earlier, she’s been in five Underworld films—the first of which she starred in 15 years ago. So maybe it is indeed time to move on.
Beckinsale also mentioned that yes, “there was a period of time, a long time ago,” when she was going to play Wonder Woman. But that film never happened and she’s quite happy about it.
“It would have been a terrible movie based on the script that I read.”
