Big Finish have revealed who would be joining Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) in a new Doctor Who audio spinoff adventure, UNIT: Extinction, part of UNIT: The New Series ... and one of them is a beloved fan favorite.
Let’s get the good news out of the way first: Ingrid Oliver will be returning in her role of UNIT scientist Osgood (she'll also be back on the show's upcoming ninth season), the Doctor’s biggest fan ever. Producer David Richardson said:
"We’re so happy to have Kate and Osgood joining us at Big Finish. This team has been so captivating to watch on TV, and we’re looking forward to throwing some deadly challenged in their paths in these kinetic new episodes."
The audio adventure will feature a slew of new UNIT characters, one of them being Lieutenant Sam Bishop, who’s described as "an international trouble-shooter for UNIT who is sent [to] the world’s most dangerous hotspot." The role will be played by Warren Brown (Luther, X Company). Richardson said of Brown's casting:
"We’ve worked with Warren several times before, and even though he’s one of the busiest leading men around, he’s said he’ll be there for Big Finish. So we’ve created a principle role in UNIT especially for him, and he’ll be am essential member of the global team."
Rounding up the cast are Ramon Tikaram (Game of Thrones, Jupiter Ascending) as Colonel Shindi, and James Joyce (Downton Abbey, The Musketeers) in the role of loose cannon UNIT officer Captain Josh Carter. Here's a synopsis/description of the upcoming Doctor Who spinoff audio adventure:
In UNIT: Extinction, Kate and her team confront an alien invasion by the Nestene Consciousness and its army of plastic Autons.
The upcoming box set is set to be released in November 2015, and you can pre-order it now. Three more UNIT audio adventures will follow every six months.
Are you looking forward to UNIT: Extinction even more now that you know Osgood will be there?
