It seems Cartoon Network is mixing a little bit of old with a little bit of new for the latest attempt to bring the Justice League to the small screen.

The network has announced the new series Justice League Action, described as a quarter-hour animated series (think Teen Titans Go!) from Warner Bros. Animation. The series will feature Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman as they face off with some of their most infamous villains, in adventures packed with “relentless thrills, fun and action.” As far as pacing is concerned, Cartoon Network promises Action will jump right into the, well, action, thanks to the 11-minute runtime for each episode.

It’ll be great to see DC’s biggest heroes back in action, but the best part is certainly behind the scenes. The series is pulling in some heavy hitters to provide the voice work, including Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) as Batman and the legendary Mark Hamill (Star Wars) as the Joker. They’ll be joined by James Woods as Lex Luthor, Diedrich Bader as Booster Gold and several others as they dig deeper into the DC roster.

Creatively, the show is bringing a few different angles to the mix. Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!) is executive-producing, along with Butch Lukic (Batman Beyond), Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series) and Jim Krieg (Green Lantern: The Animated Series). Teen Titans Go! is a love-it-or-hate-it approach to superhero cartoons, so hopefully Action will strike a better balance to bring in a wider gamut of fans.

Is this the new Justice League series you’ve been waiting for?
