During an appearance at New York Comic Con, actor Kevin Conroy (famed voice of Batman) recounted the story of the moment he knew that Batman: The Animated Series was a certifiable hit.

It all began at 5 in the morning many years ago, when Conroy went to the post office to mail something before heading to Warner Bros. studios to record some lines for the show.

Outside of the building, he was approached by, "a pile of rags" that inquired as to whether or not he had a dollar. Apologizing, Conroy told the homeless individual that he did not have any cash on him, only his mail. Instead of being the disappointed, the person became excited, exclaiming, "Oh my god, you're Kevin Conroy. You're Batman!"

Taken aback, Conroy asked how the individual knew who he was.

"Everyone knows you're Batman!" was the retort, before asking him to do the famous Batman line of "I am vengenace. I am the night. I AM BATMAN!!!"

Conroy was getting into it (the homeless individual told him to "bring it home!") but then a voice rang out of the early morning darkness: "SHUT THE F*** UP!!!" Because, you know, it was 5 a.m. But still, Conroy says it was the first time he truly felt like he was part of the Batman mythos.

On Oct. 30, a deluxe/remastered version of Batman: The Animated Series goes on sale.
