Kevin Feige pretty much confirms that Avengers 3 will be The Infinity Gauntlet

If you had any doubts that The Avengers 3 will be adapted from the classic 1991 story The Infinity GauntletMarvel president Kevin Feige might have just laid them to rest.

That classic arc, written by Jim Starlin, chronicled Thanos' attempts to use the Infinity Gauntlet -- a glove containing all six Infinity Gems -- to wipe out half the life in the universe as a way to impress Lady Death. The surviving superheroes and cosmic entities band together to stop him before he destroys what's left.

With Thanos introduced at the end of The Avengers and making an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy, a showdown is already inevitable. That was further reinforced when the actor recently revealed to be playing Thanos, Josh Brolin, came onstage at Marvel's Comic-Con panel wearing an Infinity Gauntlet (a toy one from Hasbro, but still).

Collider caught up to Feige after the presentation, where the commander of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was asked if Brolin's stunt was "a promise" that we would see that storyline eventually played out. He replied:

"I think you could look at it that way, yes. I think that's a pretty clear indicator of where things are going. I think it's clear since Joss wrote Thanos turning around and smirking at the end of Avengers 1. And to finally put an actor with it who you will glimpse also for the first time in Guardians of the Galaxy...he's going places."

The always approachable yet cagey Feige is a pro at evading direct answers, but that one sounded pretty straightforward to me.

One other interesting note: Feige was also asked whether characters in the movies could be gender or race-swapped like Thor or Captain America in the current comics. He responded:

"I think it's more likely that we'll see some of the existing female characters from the books or some of the existing African-American or African-African characters from the books come to life before we swap some of the other heroes."

Again, Feige never says anything point-blank until he's ready, but "African-African" sounds to me like a Black Panther movie is on the way for sure.

Watch the video at the link above (the Thanos comments start around 1:30 and the "African-African" comment comes around 2:45) and let us know what you think. Does it seem like The Avengers 3: The Infinity Gauntlet is a sure thing?
