Kevin Feige reveals the Star Wars tribute included in every Marvel Phase 2 movie

It’s a well-known fact among Star Wars fans that in every single movie of the beloved franchise, someone gets a hand or an arm lopped off. For example, it happened to Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back, it happened to Ponda Baba in A New Hope, and just about everybody in the prequels had a hand or limb chopped off. (I kid. But barely.)

What's perhaps less well-known is that Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige is such a Star Wars fan, he’s made it his mission to include similar scenes in every single movie making up Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here's what Feige told Cinema Blend

So is this a spoiler for Ant-Man… not really. I’m obsessed with Star Wars. Who’s not? I’m 40 years old. I’m in the movie business. I went to USC. So I’m obsessed with Star Wars - and it didn’t start out as intentional, but it became intentional, including that beat that you referenced. It sort of happens in every Star Wars movie, but I was sort of looking at it, ‘Okay, is Phase Two our Empire Strikes Back?’ Not really, but tonally things are a little different. Somebody gets their arm cut off in every Phase Two movie. Every. Single. One.

Check out the cool video Cinema Blend has put together to illustrate the point below.

Who do you think will get a limb chopped off in Avengers: Age of Ultron? What do you think of Marvel's special Star Wars tribute?
