It’s hard to picture the debut of Avengers: Infinity War going any better than it did last weekend. The 19th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe obliterated the box office record previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens and became an event unto itself. The MCU began with a similar surprise a decade ago when Iron Man opened to $98.6 million and proved that there were more Marvel heroes who could become movie stars than just the X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, and Blade.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has been with the company throughout it’s remarkable transformation into a Hollywood powerhouse. He’s also widely credited for providing the creative vision that holds the MCU together from movie to movie. In response to Infinity War’s opening, Feige shared a message to fans that thanked them for the last ten years of Marvel movies.
Here is the complete text of Feige’s letter:
"To the greatest fans,
The past ten years have been an unforgettable ride and we couldn't have done it without the entire team at Marvel Studios, our incredible talent in front of and behind the camera, the visionary comic book creators, but most importantly you.
Thank you for embracing these characters and stories since we kicked off the MCU ten years ago. This past weekend was a result beyond our wildest dreams.
On behalf of everyone here at Marvel Studios, we thank you for being the best fans in the universe and making Avengers: Infinity War the biggest opening weekend of all time.
One of Feige’s earliest film credits was for the very first X-Men movie as an associate producer. If and when the Disney and Fox deal goes through, Feige could bring his career full circle by bringing the X-Men into the MCU. That could push the Marvel films to even greater success. But even without the X-Men or the Fantastic Four, there are still very exciting times ahead for anyone who loves these characters.
