Comic book fan extraordinaire Kevin Smith is back in Vancouver to direct another episode of Supergirl when the Girl of Steel returns for a third season in early October.

Of course, this isn't Smith's first rodeo in National City, having directed “Supergirl Lives” and “Distant Sun” in Season 2. Smith also sat in the director's chair for two episodes of The Flash — “The Runaway Dinosaur” for the show’s sophomore season, and the frosty Season 3 installment, “Killer Frost.”

Kevin Smith took to Twitter yesterday to make the announcement that he will helm the currently-untitled-fifth episode penned by Eric Carrasco and Cindy Lichtman. Which, being a fan of Kevin Smith’s work on the show, is an awesome piece of news (his two Supergirl episodes were some of the strongest in Season 2).

Season 3 will see a lot of new faces, including Erica Durance as Kara’s Kryptonian mom, Alura Zor-El (Durance is replacing Laura Benanti), Odette Annable as Reign, Adrian Pasdar as Morgan Edge, Yael Grobglas as Psi and Carl Lumbly as J'onn J'onnz's (David Harewood) father, M'yrnn J'onnz.

Supergirl will fly onto our TV screens when the show returns to The CW on Oct. 9.
