This week, Marvel Comics will wrap up its Inhumans vs. X-Men event series and both groups will head off into new publishing eras. For the X-Men, that means several new solo books, but also a pair of new team books: X-Men Gold and X-Men Blue.
While Blue will give us a new take on the original team of Jean Grey, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman and Angel, Gold will give us a team made up of fan favorites from the classic Chris Claremont/Dave Cockrum/John Byrne era of X-Men comics. Fresh off her many adventures in space with Peter Quill and the Guardians of the Galaxy, Kitty Pryde has returned to Earth to find the X-Men in ruins after their war with the Inhumans. The mutant species has been saved, but Charles Xavier's dream for mutantkind is still unfulfilled and Kitty's stepping into a leadership position to fight for it.
To help her, she's assembled an all-star X-team made up of Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler (who is the Best X-Man, and that is a Science Fact), Old Man Logan and Rachel Grey. Together, they'll work to restore the X-Men to their former glory and make Professor X proud.
The series is written by longtime Arrowverse mastermind and X-Men writer Marc Guggenheim with art by Adrian Syaf (Superman/Batman), and while that creative team is exciting, the real headline for me is seeing these heroes in action together. At least three of those characters are easily Top 10 X-Men, and it'll be great to see Kitty Pryde taking her shot at playing rebuilder and teacher.
X-Men Gold #1 arrives April 5. Check out a preview below.
