Are you ready for a shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist? According to Deadline, a feature film adaptation of Knight Rider is on the way from Spyglass Media and producers James Wan and Michael Clear. T.J. Fixman, a veteran video game writer of the Ratchet & Clank series, has reportedly been hired to pen the screenplay.

A true classic of 1980s television, Knight Rider originally ran on NBC for a total of 90 episodes across four seasons between 1982 and 1986. The show (created by Glen A. Larson) starred a young David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a former cop, who becomes a vigilante hero with the help of an intelligent car named KITT. Over the years, the series gained quite a large following and, as a result, spawned an entire multimedia franchise of spinoffs, made-for-TV movies, books, games, and comics.

Revel in the sheer '80s-ness of the iconic theme song (composed by Larson and Stu Phillips) below:

While plot details are thin at the moment, it is said that the upcoming movie version will be set in the present and "maintain the anti-establishment tone of the original," writes Deadline. Judson Scott (Annabelle Comes HomeThe Curse of La Llorona) is also attached as a producer.

In 2017, Hasselhoff said that he wanted to reprise the role of Michael Knight in a dark and Logan-esque kind of project directed by Alita: Battle Angel's Robert Rodriguez. Let's hope the actor is asked to take part in the forthcoming big-screen adaptation. The year before, it was reported that Star Trek: Beyond's Justin Lin was working on a television reboot. It's unclear whether that's still happening.
